Rachel Maddow Gave Pat Buchanan A Smack Down

Granted I believe Pat Buchanan is probably not a racist but he is a bigot trapped in a time zone that's back in the days of President Regan. Nonetheless, listening to his constant rhetoric is enough to give a person a headache. He goes on and on about what Obama needs to do, how Obama is exotic, how Obama is not one of us, blah, blah, blah. Well on June 30th Rachel Maddow took Pat on for his qoting Dana Millbank's faulty quote regarding Obama as presumptuous as factual:

Opps he did it again with the help of MSM

While examining the pundits reaction to Dana Milbank's (conservative truth speaker) post of I gotcha (irregardless of fact), I examined the pundits reaction. To highlight a few pundits such as Pat Buchanan, Tucker Carlson and Joe Sarborough (privileged spoiled bigots of the highest order) and their conduct throughout the other day has amplified the issue of race being put into the campaign, I have come to note that on a subliminal (if you are dense) level McCain has been playing that card for a little while. But McCain has not been alone in his effort. The Mass Media's talking heads (MSM) has aided him in this endeavor. You have people like Pat Buchanan who turn up on practically all of MSNBC news shows (with the exception of Keith Olbermann) asking the question: is Obama "one of us." Who this "us" refers to is always undefined so one can only use their imagination. Does Pat mean: unhuman, unAmerican, unelitist, unwealthy, uninvited to the private club, unprivileged, un-right-color? Nevertheless, Pat is not alone in this endeavor. You have Tucker who is forever spouting how arrogant Obama is, even while he ascertain that who ever runs for president has to be arrogant. Of course he then counterpoints that with Obama being too arrogant and unworthy of being elected (basically). Of course their is Joe being just his usual asshole self and proving that, yes, even (supposedly)educated men can be stupid; especially if they spend 3 hours of every morning (minus Saturday and Sunday thank goodness) spouting dribble.

But Pat, Joe nor Tucker are alone. You have other talking heads discussing if Obama is uppity, arrogant, or presumptuous. If you are a Black American those words have a particular meaning and none of them are praising. They inherently mean, to a Black American, that Black people need to learn their place and stop trying to make it to the big house. In the MSM quest to show they are above the fray they have now become insensitive to Black Americans' history of being insulted in this same manner by white/black slave owners, the KKK and racist. They can forget that any attempts of having a black pundit saying "it is not about race" or "Obama has to walk a fine line between looking presidential or arrogant" will change the bulk of Black Americas opinion of their lack of sensitivity. Those descriptors are insulting and demeaning; especially, since Obama has done nothing different than McCain with the exception that he did it better and he is Black.

Granted, I can truly understand why McCain would give no thought to offending Black Americans especially since Obama currently holds over 90% of the black American vote and McCain holds only a single digit percent. McCain has smartly surmised that he does not need to play nice to this group of American people. But that does not excuse the MSM from skewing this race with their constant lack of examination of McCain; but continuous chatter of pushing the image that there is some justification to McCain's (race) baiting and insults towards Obama. The MSM lack of doing their job is an insult to the intelligence of the American people, plus this constant pandering to every right wing talking point is getting stupid. They are well aware that most of what McCain has either said or done should be examined under the same microscope (I mean stronger microscope) that they subject Obama to and it is getting harder and harder to keep McCain's total F-Ups under wrap.

The N-Word

We need to establish who the N-word deeply offends. My opening statement may be weird but none the less the answer needs to be established. Using the N-word invokes the connotation of a race uproar and brings back memories of oppression, murder, slavery and all sorts of ugliness. Yet, if this a true picture of how all black American feels? Why do our young use the word so much?

Let’s put the use of the word into a true perspective. If, by a young black person’s standard it is OK for a white, Asian, Indian, etc. person to use the term in the context of "what’s up" it is acceptable. Trust me no young black person has or will complain. But, if anyone (no matter race) call a black person (no matter the age) the same term in a dirty fashion every black person is listening with anger. But then such is life since most races have some derogatory term stapled to them as a race

Does it bother the young as much as it bother the older generation? It must be noted that the older generation can not control the speaking pattern that the younger generation adapts and clearly want to establish. The younger generation use the term to joke, endear and insult. To them, the N-word has it uses. They are not half as upset as the older generation when it comes to using the word.

I have a 17 year old daughter whom I turned to in my attempt to understand the attitude of the young. Now when the N-Word became an issue she jumped on that wagon and started making sure I knew (if no one else) that she found that word deplorable, which made me proud. But it never stopped her from listening to the term being used in music she likes or her good friends using the term as an endearment. We must note that the depth of the full hateful meaning of the N-word is not recognized as intensely by the younger generation. The N-word does not have the same meaning to the younger generation. Especially since the younger generation have no personal experience with hate as the older black generation is all to well aware of from years of persecution, slavery, racism, and fighting for equality. This is not to say the black race’s children have abandoned their history; but, it must be noted that the youth of America will continue to twist the American language and give new meaning to what we know and knew as deplorable words and/or expressions.

It must also be noted that instead of the media having conversation with middle age (or old age) analyst to strive to get at a confirmed opinion of the significant of the N-word there is a real need to approach high school students or college kids from a well mixed area to get to the true meaning of the N-word and what it really means and how it impacts black America’s youth today.

The youth of America are the ones who will be in control of thought patterns, slang, and what words have bad meanings in the near future. The youth of today are also the ones that will break free of all that we believe is important today.

McCain’s Temper is it Motivated by Contempt or Desperation?

For the past week we have been inundated with one negative ad after another by the McCain camp. Yet there is a very serious question that needs to be answered: is McCain’s temper motivated by contempt, desperation or a combination of both? At first I thought his ad was just tired lies being presented by someone who wanted attention, then as the next ad was presented I felt it had progressed into the land of stupid (the famous Paris Hilton/Britney Spears ad). Now he has moved on to Moses? That ad reeks with jealousy and contempt. I took note of the pattern emerging that illustrated the fact that for this pass week none of McCain's ads had anything to do with his policies really. McCain has not given any real time to stress what his campaign was about; especially, when it came to big issues that Americans are facing. You know like the economy, oil and Iraq, to name a few.

Then McCain went a step farther By daring to insinuate that Obama was playing the race card. Yet I can't help wondering what sane black man (even half white) would stand up and state that he is a symbol of America to all of the World including America? It would not be a black man that is sane by any measure; but, of course if that black man had been living on Mars for the last 40 years and had no knowledge of America’s history with racism that would explain it. Unfortunately such is not the case.

There was a time I started to wonder if McCain was obsessed with Obama; but, as I listened to the undertone of his messages and rhetoric it became increasingly clear that McCain had no respect for Obama as a person (not just as an opponent) and therefore must hold Obama in the highest contempt. How does one generate so much contempt unless it has a root in hatred possibly stemming from racism? But I am not the only one who has done the math and see that 1+1 does equal 2. Even McCain's base is starting to notice.

McCain and the GOP have used (and probably plan to use even more) every medium to project the image that Obama should be held in contempt by the American people. How dare someone of Obama’s low stature seek to be president of the free world? McCain and others have attacked Obama’s patriotism, his intelligence, his appearance, his wife, his children, what he eats, his weight, his race and the list can go on and on. None of McCain’s ads or rhetoric is about attacking his opponent’s policies which is what they should be about. To make it worst for McCain is the fact that the worst of his attacks against Obama comes directly from McCain, not his surrogates.

McCain has being attacking Obama from all fronts and the biggest problem with his attacks is that the bulk of them are all blatant lies, distortions and mockery and anything else that they can think of to lay at Obama’s feet. Yes, everyone acknowledges that McCain’s ads are clearly a sign of desperation but it also shows an obvious contempt McCain and company holds towards Obama. Obama is not some one who just showed up yesterday. Obama captured the most votes for a democrat in history. He has sponsored and helped enacted various legislation.

McCain can no longer stand behind the message of “…I respect Senator Obama greatly…” unless he greatly underestimate the intelligence of the American people. The only message that I can glean from McCain is that although he is desperate he also holds Obama in contempt and plans to make sure the American people know it and I'm sure he hopes we will join him in his sentiment.

Since Obama did not have the fortune of being born with a silver spoon, unless you count living off of food stamps as a sign of privilege. He came from a poor background and pulled himself up from his bootstraps to achieve great educational success. He did not turn his back on the people but instead of taking a high paying job he chose to tackled social issues and helping people. If McCain does not start refocusing his ads and rhetoric on substance he well start being viewed by more than just democrats and independents as a racist.
